April is Smile Month at Clown Doctors and Commonwealth Bank!

Make it your Smile Month too!

Wear and share a smile this April with friends, colleagues and family while raising awareness and supporting the Clown Doctors in your local community. Smile Day is a special day in which you can help the curve of a smile set everything straight for a sick child in hospital. You can get involved by organising your own Smile Day fundraising event or activity throughout April, by making a donation here www.commbank.com.au/clowndoctors or at your local Commonwealth Bank. Commonwealth Bank Branches around the country will also be holding various fundraising activities, so make sure you pop in to say hello to the staff!

Look out for the Smile Photo Booth at the Royal Easter Show on Sunday 31 March and Monday 1 April! You can dress up in funny outfits, take a quick snap, and upload the pic to your Facebook page, all for a gold coin donation towards Clown Doctors!

Happy Smile Month everyone and thanks for sharing a smile with a sick child!

What's Happened?

Miles For Smiles Tasmania 3rd-6th April 2013

Tasmania locals dosed the streets of Launceston, Rosny Park and Hobart with their special kind of medicine this April- with doses of smiles and laughter. The energy was high as local Cadbury employees, businesses and volunteers ran another exciting and iconic Cadbury-run Miles for Smiles fundraising event. People were located at busy highways and shopping centres collecting money and spreading laughter, all in the name of making sick kids in Tasmanian hospitals smile. Community donations were kindly dollar matched by local chocolate maker, Cadbury, raising an incredible $60 000! Thanks to everyone for all their hard work in making this another exciting event!

Thank you for creating more laughter!

alt

The continuing support of donors for the Clown Doctors has created more laughter for sick children in hospital. From October 2012, there will be an increase in the presence of Clown Doctors in hospitals around Australia.

The Humour Foundation has been working hard to increase Clown Rounds in hospitals across the nation and we are proud to announce that, thanks to your incredible support, we will reach an additional 10,000 children each year. This increase will make a huge difference to sick children and their families, giving the gift of laughter and joy to more people.

The Clown Doctors currently visit 21 hospitals around the country, bringing smiles and laughter right to the bedside of sick children, where it is needed the most. This incredible milestone has been achieved solely through the support and generosity of our donors, such as yourself. Thank you for believing in the power of a smile for sick children everywhere.

We feel inspired by knowing laughter is still the best medicine. Additional Clown Doctor Rounds will mean the physiological and psychological benefits of humour will reach more sick children, and Clown Doctors can continue to deliver our version of ‘open heart surgery’.

Thank you so much for making a difference to the lives of sick children!

Peter treks across Spain to raise money for the Clown Doctors!

Peter Jess has been involved with The Clown Doctors for a number of years. His passion for our cause is so strong that he embarked on the challenging Camino De Santiago, an 800km trek across Spain during October 2012, to raise money for the Clown Doctors.

Thanks so much Peter! Together we can help the curve of a smile set everything straight for sick children and their families in hospital across Australia.

Congratulations David Symons

alt

Our very own Artistic Director David Symons has been awarded a Churchill Fellowship of around $20,000. He was one out of five Australians’ selected to conduct research into a specific ageing-related area of medicine. David will be travelling to Holland, Scotland, Canada and the USA to investigate key health concerns relating to aged and dementia care. He will be examining artistry and humour therapy in these contexts, as well as program structure and service delivery.

His award recognises the importance of improving the quality of life for aged-care patients, and comes at an exciting time as we grow our Elder Clowns Program. We are all thrilled for him and enthusiastic to implement his research findings to further develop the work of The Humour Foundation!

A warm congratulations David!
